Tenafly is an affluent town located just outside The City. For those of
you, who think San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, Houston, or any other
metropolis is The City, let me relieve you of your confusion. The City
is the home of the Bronx Bombers,
otherwise known as The Big Apple. Yes that's right. New York City. Anyway, back to Tenafly. What is Tenafly famous for? Well, not much I'm afraid. I do believe that the park, Roosevelt Commons, in the center of town was named after Eleanor Roosevelt, who thought really highly of it when she visited. However, I'd bet if she saw it now, she'd have a different spin on things. Rumor has it that the ducks glow in the dark. Perhaps one thing Tenafly is famous for is its school system...Nah, probably not, but it does boast one of the top school systems in New Jersey. How about famous people? Well, Don Mattingly lived (perhaps still owns) a house in Tenafly. Ed Harris (of The Rock, Apollo 13, and The Truman Show) graduated from THS. The Sorvino's, including Mira, lived in Tenafly. I'm not much for politics, so you'll have to use your imagination there. What is there to do in Tenafly? Well, if you're up for outdoor fun, we've got some of that. Take a stroll through a flower garden at the Davis Johnson Park located at the corner of Westervelt Ave. and Engle St. There's the Tenafly Nature Center at the top of Hudson Ave. There's the aforementioned Roosevelt Commons on Riveredge Rd. between Tenafly Rd. and Jefferson Ave. Here you can stroll around the pond, play on the swings, or play some tennis. Tennis? Ranger Ron? Ah, yes tennis. You might think they have it rough in Washington, but on most weekends, the tennis courts were where the power struggles occurred. For those of you who never had the "pleasure" of being accosted by Ranger Ron, well let's just say his sole purpose in life seemed to be to drive by the tennis courts in his public works pickup truck every hour and check for your badge. He'd pull up to the courts, slowly and deliberately stroll onto the courts and ask for your badge. If you were like most of us, repeat offenders, you would be given the intimidation speech. "Do you know that playing without a badge is cause for a serious fine?" He must have had lots of fun picking on little kids. What can little kids do? If you have little kids to entertain, keep them away from the tennis courts. Aside from that, there are plenty of nice parks to play in. Swing sets can be found throughout Tenafly. For the real youngsters, there's:
Or you can go to any of the four elementary schools.
