This was a rush job. I used to have a link to somebody else's page on how to make "Little Fish," but unfortunately that web site moved or disappeared or something. Oops. The following is stolen from that page.
This figure was called "Little Fishes" by Mrs. Jayne in her 1906 collection of string figures. It is from the Torres Straits (between Australia and New Guinea).
- Index Opening.
- Pass thumbs away from you between upper and lower near index strings; pick up lower far index strings and return.
- Pass thumbs away from you over upper near index string; pick up upper far index string and return. You now have two loops on each thumb.
- Bend little fingers toward you and down over upper near index string; pick up lower near index string and return.
- Put index fingers down into the triangle formed by the little-finger loop and the upper near index string, and pick up on the tip of the index fingers the upper near index string. Rotate index fingers back to position, twisting this string around the tips of the index fingers. Release thumbs and extend figure.
