Emily and I after a training run in heavy rain.
Emily warming up moments before our first marathon. We'd both gotten up at 4am to run the marathon...at this point we're about 20 minutes away from the 8am start. I'd say the expression on Emily's face captures our feelings about the race at that point better than words: a little apprehension and a lot of excitement. You just can't tell she's excited because she's too damn cold.
Around mile 15. Looking good, I'd say...we'd just gotten over the biggest hill and were about to coast into Golden Gate Park.
In a dead sprint for the finish line...I cannot express just what it feels like to see the finish line after having gone that distance. It's more than the 26.2 miles of that morning, it's the many hundreds of training miles we ran just to get there. This was undoubtedly the best moment of my life.
Moments after the race.
