For Students : Services: In-Room Network Connections: Finding Your Hardware Ethernet Address: Windows NT/2000/XP

To determine your hardware Ethernet address:

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Run. Type cmd and then click OK.

  2. At the C:\ prompt, type ipconfig /all and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

  3. The next screen displays information about your Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection (and Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection, if your laptop is equipped with wireless). Your twelve-digit, hardware address is in the Physical Address field.

In the following example, the Ethernet address is
    00-01-03-1A-80-6C.

  4. Note that laptops with wireless capabilities will have physical address listed TWICE, and that you must provide both addresses on the self-registration site. The physical address listed below the heading Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection is your main wired ethernet hardware address, and the physical address listed below the heading Wireless Network Connection is your wireless hardware address.

Note: This information has been excerpted from ITSS, a useful source for additional registration instructions.
