Residential Computing, through the ResJobs system and otherwise, supports the online/technical components of the selection processes for almost all residential staff positions, including:
- Ethnic Theme Associate (ETA)/Academic Theme Associate (ATA)/Focus Assistant (FA)
- Graduate Community Associate (CA)
- Head Peer Academic Coordinator (HPAC)
- Peer Health Educator (PHE)
- Peer Tutor
- Resident Assistant (RA)/College Assistant (CA)
- Resident Computer Consultant (RCC) - both dorm and graduate
- Row Student Manager (including EAST and Row RCCs)
- Summer Conference Computing Tech and Coordinator
- Summer/SRC RA
- Writing Tutor
Residential Computing is looking for a student to help coordinate the technical operations of residential staff selection. This position reports directly to the Student Computing/Residential Computing Software Engineering Manager and will include interacting with applicants, existing residence staff, and hiring managers from various departments from all around campus.
Responsibilities
- Along with the Software Engineering Manager, serve as a main point of contact for technical issues for applicants, existing residential staff, and hiring managers at various departments.
- Stay aware of the selection calendar and before the selection process begins for a particular staff position, meet with and educate the approrpiate department’s hiring manager(s) on the ResJobs system and how their process can be conducted through it.
- Maintain active communication with the point of contact in each department that is part of the residential staff selection process.
- Respond to requests for help or other issues either directly or by forwarding these requests onto the appropriate people.
- Help set up the current year's version of the application forms, interview rounds, etc. for each selection process and make any ongoing updates as necessary.
- Maintain active communication with the Software Engineering Manager about the status of all residential staff selection.
- Commit to an average of 10-15 hours per week-- the workload is usually low between late fall quarter and beginning of winter quarter and peaks during the “spring selection season,” starting in mid-February and ending in mid-May. Where appropriate, work can be done from home. This minimum commitment is required to ensure that selection processes proceed as smoothly as possible and that we provide a high level of customer service, measured by responsiveness, issue resolution, and customer satisfaction.
- May include additional responsibilities, such as software development work on the ResJobs system itself, depending on experience and qualifications.
Qualifications
Required
- Currently serving or served in an undergraduate residential staff
position (does not necessarily have to be an RCC), but NOT planning on
applying to be on residence staff for next year OR be familiar with the
residential staff selection process.
- Familiarity with working on a Unix/Linux system.
- Experience working with HTML.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and to learn quickly.
- Organized and detail oriented.
- Confidence, tact, and skill in dealing with a diverse community. You will be dealing with not only applicants, but professional staff and faculty from both our and other departments that we support.
Desired
- Experience working with Java and JSP.
- Experience working with databases, especially Oracle.
