The applicant should have interpersonal skills as well as some technical skills. Read below to find out more about these qualifications.


Interpersonal Skills

The interpersonal skills we look for include:

  • The willingness to learn and apply new knowledge and techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience helping and teaching others.
  • Experience organizing projects and working on a team.
  • Demonstrated interest in contributing to life in the residences.


Technical Skills

The technical skills we look for include:

  • Familiaritywith Macintosh and/or PC hardware and applications, including word processors and graphics programs
  • Familiarity with computing resources on campus as well as internet resources such as email and the World Wide Web.
  • Experience consulting, teaching or tutoring.

The Undergraduate applicant MUST have either:

(a) Taken CS 196 - Microcomputer Consulting or plan to take it by the end of Spring quarter before the year of appointment

OR

(b) Formal consulting, teaching, or tutoring experience in a university environment within the last academic year. We will also consider relevant business or work experience.

Alternatives to this requirement:

  • CS 197 may be substituted for CS 196. Explain on your application if you wish to substitute this class.
  • Approved waiver request for the CS196 requirement (available on the first day of CS196 class). If you will be taking the class during Spring quarter, please note that on your RCC application.


Other Requirements

You must fulfill the following requirements during the year you are an RCC:

  • For graduate students, must have an eligible year of housing. For undergraduates, must have a guaranteed year of housing.
  • Must be registered for all three quarters of the academic year.
  • Must have a local phone number (650 area code) and some type of message service (voicemail, answering machine, etc.).
